Lawsuit Claims Illinois Nursing Home Neglected Resident and Caused Her Wrongful Death

Two women are blaming serious neglect of an Illinois nursing home for the death of a loved one. The nursing home neglect lawsuit was filed against the Virgil Calvert Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East St. Louis, Illinois. Despite prior lawsuits against this nursing home, it is still failing to deliver the quality of care that residents expect and deserve.

Chicago nursing home abuse attorneys at Pintas & Mullins Law Firm continue to see an increased number of abuse and neglect complaints against local nursing homes. This is troubling because Illinois already ranks second in the nation for poor quality nursing home care, and the situation is getting worse. Illinois nursing home residents face a high risk of abuse, and negligent nursing homes need to be held accountable for delivering inadequate care.

The suit alleges that the nursing home failed to properly supervise the victim and provide her with necessary medical treatments. As the Madison St-Clair Record reports, the victim developed a urinary tract infection during her stay that was left untreated. She also developed decubitus ulcers, which are one of the most common and preventable injuries that nursing home residents suffer. These pressure ulcers are life-threatening, and typically form when residents are left in the same position for long periods of time in an understaffed nursing home. The victim further suffered dehydration because she was not given sufficient fluids. Her body weight and nutrition dropped to extreme levels, but nursing home staff did not admit her to the hospital until it was too late.
