Common Questions: Nursing Home Abuse

No! We work on a contingency fee basis, which means that you only pay our firm if we can win your case.

Can You Represent Me in My State?

Throughout our 30+ years of practice, attorneys from Pintas & Mullins have represented clients in every single state across the nation. We are able to do this through the reciprocity of a state’s bar rules, court approval, or local co-counsel. How Do I Know If Abuse and/or Neglect Is Happening?

If you suspect your loved one is being victimized by nursing home abuse or neglect, you should immediately call our firm. These acts can be difficult to discover; however, there are some red flags. For example, if you see bruises, cuts, wounds, or scars on your loved one, they may be suffering from physical abuse. On the other hand, if you notice your loved one’s demeanor has changed or they are withdrawing from others, it could be a sign of emotional or psychological abuse. Signs of neglect include unexpected weight loss, bedsores, falls, and poor hygiene. If you notice any of these signs, give us a call.

Who Is Responsible for Abuse and Neglect?

If abuse or neglect is occurring, the staff and administration at the nursing home are directly responsible. It is their legal duty to provide the best possible care and attention; if they are not upholding that standard of care, they can and should be held liable.

What Can Be Done to Prevent Abuse and/or Neglect?

There are several preventative steps that can be taken for individuals who have loved one in nursing homes. The first step is to be choosy in picking a facility. Take the time to research them, inspect the premises, read reports, and visit it in person. Second, frequently visit loved ones and get to know the staff and other residents.
