Nursing home corrects its deficiencies
MONTGOMERY - Inspectors found serious lapses in patient care at Mount Royal Towers nursing home in Vestavia Hills, but the deficiencies have been remedied, Rick Harris of the Department of Public Health said Friday. The department’s Bureau of Health Provider Standards cited Mount Royal Towers, at 300 Royal Tower Drive, as putting patients in immediate jeopardy by failing to correct problems noticed in a December inspection. The nursing home had been in danger of losing eligibility for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement if the problems had not been fixed, said Harris, the bureau’s director.
According to the December report, a vision-impaired resident left the nursing home unnoticed Nov. 22 and was found 800 feet down the road by a nursing assistant coming to work. The same woman left the home again Nov. 25 and was chased down a slippery hill for 300 feet.
